GLENSIDE, Pa. --- Keith Fogel (Mifflinburg, PA/Mifflinburg) scored 18 of his career-high 25 points in the second half to lead Elizabethtown College to a 72-58 victory at Arcadia University in Commonwealth Conference men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.
Mike Church (Peach Bottom, PA/Solanco) added 12 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four blocked shots as the Blue Jays (10-8 overall, 4-2 Commonwealth) went 8-for-15 from three-point range as a team to pick up their second straight win.
Fogel went 8-for-13 from the field, including 3-for-6 from three-point range, and sank all six of his foul shots to extend his streak of consecutive made free throws to 27. His previous career best of 21 points was set against Marymount University on Nov. 25 and matched against Messiah College on Jan. 10.
Damien Palantino sank five three-pointers and led the Knights (7-10 overall, 2-3 Commonwealth) with 15 points while Khalief Trawick came off the bench to add 12 points on 6-for-9 shooting, but Arcadia finished at just 40.7 percent (24-for-59) from the field as a team including 8-for-24 from three-point range.
An 8-0 run midway through the first half, highlighted by five points from Mark Vogel (Landisville, PA/Hempfield) gave Elizabethtown a 16-10 lead with 12:32 left in the half. The Blue Jays held their largest lead of the opening half at 31-20 with 4:20 remaining, but a 9-0 run helped the Knights draw to within 33-29 at intermission.
Fogel and Josh Houseal (Landisville, PA/Hempfield) shared the team lead with seven points apiece in the first half for Elizabethtown, which shot 44.8 percent (13-for-29) from the field, while Palantino hit three three-pointers and tallied a game-high nine points for Arcadia.
Arcadia narrowed the deficit to 39-37 on Palantino's fifth three-pointer of the day with 17:04 to play, but Fogel hit back-to-back three-pointers to push the Elizabethtown lead back to eight at 45-37.
The Knights would pull to as close as six at 58-52 with 5:32 to go, but a three-pointer by Vogel triggered a quick 7-0 run that put the Blue Jays back on top by 13 at 65-52 with 4:18 to go.
Vogel finished with a career-high eight points in 19 minutes off the Blue Jay bench, while leading scorer Joe Flanagan (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Mennonite) was held to just nine points, six below his average of 15.1 points per game entering the contest.

Knights Fall to Elizabethtown 72-58
GLENSIDE, PA: 1/24/09 - Elizabethtown College handed the Knights of Arcadia University their first Commonwealth Conference home loss of the season, defeating the Knights 72-58 in a heated battle of conference rivals. The Blue Jays improve to 10-8 overall and 4-2 in the league while the Knights drop to 7-10 overall and 2-3 against Commonwealth opponents.
The fast paced first half featured three lead changes early on before the Blue Jays went up by 11 with 4:20 remaining. But junior Damien Palantino nailed back-to-back treys for the Knights right before senior Bobby Mulholland swished his own three point bucket to make it a 31-29 game as the Knights trailed by only four at the half, 33-29.
While the Blue Jays would never relinquish their lead, Arcadia kept it close in the second half. Senior Blaise Pepitone rang home his first three pointer of the game at 5:32, brining the Knights to within six, 58-52 but Mark Vogel drained a triple on a second attempt for Elizabethtown at 5:19 to take a 61-52 lead as the Blue Jays enjoyed the double-bonus through regulation, going onto to win 72-58.
Elizabethtown's Keith Fogel led all scorer's with 25 points on 8-13 shooting from the floor and a perfect 6-6 from the line. Mike Church added a dozen for the Blue Jays. Palantino led the Knights with 15 while freshman Khalief Trawick added a dozen with 4 assists. Mulholland scored 8 points and pulled down a team high 6 rebounds for Arcadia. Senior Terell Varnado added 9 points and 5 defensive caroms.
The Blue Jays nailed 53% from beyond the arc, 45% from the floor and were 60% from the charity stripe while the Knights struggled form long range, hitting just 33% and shot only 41% from the floor and a season low 28% from the stripe.
Arcadia returns to the court at Albright College on Wednesday, January 28 for an 8 PM tip in Commonwealth play.
